Caught on Video – Repo Man Chased and Attacked

Los Angeles, CA – 23 August 2017 – Cellphone video of a car repossession gone wrong is now going viral.

The video — shot by Brittany McDonald and James Harris — has been shared more than 20,000 times on Facebook since it was posted Monday.

The couple was driving on Santa Fe Avenue near Artesia Boulevard in Compton Monday around 10 a.m. when they spotted the wild scene playing out.

Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department say a repo man was driving a tow truck. He was trying to repossess a vehicle that had been left parked on the street due to non-payment.

That’s when the trouble began. The registered owner came out and began yelling at him. When the tow truck driver tried to get away, the owner of the car jumped onto the truck to try and stop him.

“I just looked in the rear view mirror and saw black smoke and a guy rolling on the street. … I didn’t know what was going on,” McDonald said.

Harris said it looked like the man was trying to unhook the car from the two truck, but the driver kept going.

“He flipped off and chased him two or three blocks and somebody must have given him a ride and caught up to him,” Harris said.

The owner of the car was holding a crowbar and smashed the rear window of the tow truck while the truck driver tried to escape, according to investigators. Sparks were flying from the vehicle as it was dragged for more than 10 minutes through the streets of Compton.

“A blessing nobody did get hit.. cars had to swerve and the car was spinning and people ran into trash cans parked on the side of the road. It was crazy. We were following, the tires actually came off … we ran over tires as we recorded the video … it was a sight to see,” McDonald said.

Video shows sheriff’s deputies finally pull over the tow truck and question both men. Both men were released after being questioned, but authorities are considering vandalism and other charges against the owner of the car.
