The tow truck operators, Ralph Iavarona and Elizabeth Vinall from Cheap Auto Rental in Wallingford, came to the Applebee’s parking lot on the Boston Post Road last Friday to seize the vehicle.
The car’s owner works in a nearby business and when she saw what was happening she ran outside to stop the car from being taken, police said.
There was a struggle and then Vinall, 36, jumped into the woman’s vehicle and attempted to drive it away, striking the woman in the process, police said.
Police took Vinall and Iavarona into custody and charged them with second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace, police said.
Both were released after posting $1,000 bonds and are due in court Jan. 29.
