Salt Lake City, UT – August 19, 2011 – There was an unexpected and frightening find for auction workers cleaning out a repossessed car in Salt Lake City.
As workers at Brasher’s Auto Auctions were cleaning out a repossessed car to get it ready for auction, they found what looked like a pipe bomb. Turns out, it was the real deal.
“Our bomb techs responded and inspected that device,” said Salt Lake City detective Lisa Pascadlo. “[They] determined that it was indeed an explosive device. They rendered it safe.”
She says now, their focus is to figure out who put the bomb there and if there was an intended target.
“Obviously we will want to definitely investigate where that car came from and how there came to be a pipe bomb in the vehicle,” said Pascadlo.
Witnesses who wish to remain anonymous say bomb squad crews used their robot to disarm the bomb. No one was hurt by the device.
