Mankato, MN – July 26, 2011 – In an act of stupidity obviously borrowed from watching too much “repo reality TV”, a Minnesota Repo Man decided that somehow by holding on to the car while the borrower drove away, he would somehow get the car. Odd enough, in Minnesota it worked.
45-year-old John Fitzgerald Thomas was arrested after police received a report of a disturbance at about 7:45 p.m. Monday. A 2005 Cadillac STS was being repossessed from Thomas when he reportedly got inside the car and drove it off a tow truck. Thomas was apparently already charged with rape on May 13, 2011 and awaiting trial.
According to the Mankato Department of Public Safety report, the repossessor, Nate Zimmerman, attempted to climb through the driver’s window of the car and stop Thomas as he was in the same drivers side driving it off of his tow truck. said. Thomas sped away, reaching speeds of about 40 mph, with Zimmerman sitting in the window and holding on to the roof of the car.
After a couple blocks, the car stopped and Zimmerman got off the car with just a few abrasions.
Thomas was stopped after a couple blocks and arrested. He’s facing a felony charge of 2nd Degree Assault, along with lesser charges of Reckless Driving and Driving After Suspension.

Want to bet on whether or not it was CONTINGENT. Why else would you risk your life or others over a piece of iron. How many injuries and deaths will it take before this unconscionable practice take before this industry realizes that it is a threat to public safety and finally just say NO.
