Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing Son in Law over Repo

Pennington Gap, VA – September 21, 2012 – One man is dead and another in jail held without bond after the fatal stabbing of a man’s son in law over an argument about a repossession.

Sammy McMahan, 46, was arrested at his home by Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies and has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Matthew Neal Stallard, 25.

Sheriff’s Office deputies reported that Stallard’s wounds were apparently inflicted by a hunting knife.

According to Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons, deputies responded to a report of a possible stabbing at a residence in the Seminary section of the county. Reportedly when officers arrived McMahan reported to officers that he and Stallard had been arguing over a repossessed vehicle and other domestic matters when they became involved in an altercation.

During the fight, McMahan allegedly stabbed Stallard with the hunting knife.

Stallard was rushed to Lee Regional Medical Center for treatment before being flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, where he was later pronounced dead.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigators interviewed McMahan before taking him into custody.

McMahan is being held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield.
