One of my personal crusades is to raise awareness of the fact that Mercedes-Benz did not invent the car like they claim to, and that automobiles have been around far longer than most people realize — viable cars have been around since at least the early 1800s. That’s why I’m so delighted to tell you about the first car to be repossessed, and used to run from a cop — way back in 1867.
Albuquerque, NM – 17 November 2017 – Officers said a man tried to pull over another driver with his police lights. However, he’s not a cop. Last month, an officer in an unmarked unit spotted a tow truck near I-25 and San Antonio “with red and blue flashing overhead lights.”
The owner of the car was holding a crowbar and smashed the rear window of the tow truck while the truck driver tried to escape, according to investigators. Sparks were flying from the vehicle as it was dragged for more than 10 minutes through the streets of Compton.
Provo, UT – 11 January 2017 – A Utah repossession agent accused of forcing a woman off the road, leading to a fatal crash while trying to take back her car was sentenced Tuesday to one to 15 years in prison.
Melbourne, FL – 31 December 2016 – Melbourne Police have arrested a 48-year-old Kevin Claybourne early Saturday morning after the suspect reportedly chased down and shot at a repo man who was lawfully repossessing the suspect’s truck.
Vista, CA – 2 December 2016 – Two alleged carjackers were arrested following a wild chase involving a repo truck in Vista Wednesday morning.
Authorities say a couple following a repo truck with a vehicle in tow pulled a shotgun out and fired at least one shot around 4:30 a.m. on Gopher Canyon Road.
