Waynesboro, VA – October 13, 2016 –Two men and one woman were arrested after a ten mile police chase Tuesday, including a convicted felon who is now charged in connection to a shooting that occurred during a repossession in Waynesboro last month.
Thirty-seven-year-old Christina Lafon Harrison surrendered to the Waynesboro Police Department on October 9. She is charged with obstruction of justice and knowingly giving a false report. Harrison is currently free on bond.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. on September 27, officers responded to the area near Hopeman West Apartments to speak with a Shenandoah County man who claims he was shot at as he attempted to locate a vehicle for repossession.
The complainant told officers that he was looking for a 2014 Dodge Avenger at the apartment complex where Harrison’s boyfriend, 37-year-old Charles Richard Ramsey, lives. He saw the vehicle leave the complex parking lot and followed it out onto Guilford Lane. The complainant told officers he heard gunshots as he was close to the Dodge Avenger. The suspect vehicle then fled the area.
The next day, Ramsey voluntarily met with police detectives at the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office.
On Oct.9, the car chase ensued that ended with three arrests, a couple of pounds of marijuana, and thousands of dollars are making headlines in Augusta County.
Thirty-seven-year-old Charles Richard Ramsey, 26-year-old Ryan Scott Varner and 18-year-old Mariah Kelsey Chaplin-Cash are all facing multiple charges.
On Friday, a sheriff’s deputy noticed a suspicious car on Lyndhurst Road. A ten mile chase began, and it ended with the driver crashing twice on Rankin Lane in Stuarts Draft.
The sheriff’s office says two of the suspects were arrested after trying to run from the scene. One even slipped out of handcuffs and bolted from the sheriff’s office parking lot and was caught across the street.
Ramsey is charged with possession of Schedule 1 or 2 drug with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while being a convicted felon, possession of a firearm while being in possession of drugs, possession of a firearm with a destroyed serial number, and felony eluding. Felony warrants from the City of Waynesboro were also served to him.
Varner is charged with possession of Schedule 1 or 2 drug with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, possession of a firearm with a destroyed serial number, and felony escape custody.
Chaplin-Cash is charged with possession of Schedule 1 or 2 drug with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Investigators say they recovered a handgun from one of the suspects and another was inside the car.
They also found three pounds of marijuana, about an ounce of meth, drug paraphernalia and more than $19,000 in cash.
The car is a rental with a Maryland registration.
On Oct. 12, Ramsey was served warrants for two counts of shooting from a vehicle causing the risk of danger to another, two counts of discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the Waynesboro shooting.
He is currently being held at the Middle River Regional Jail.
