Two MS Cops Fired After Trying to Stop Their Own Repo While on Duty

Rosedale, MS – March 12, 2012 – Two Rosedale police officers were relieved of duty after chasing down a Repo Man out of the city limits. The catch is, the repossessed vehicle belonged to one of the officers.

The alleged event that occurred on February 17, 2012 led to officers Nakia Hall and Arthur Griham’s release.

As described by Rosedale Mayor Carey Estes shortly after the incident, “On or around Feb. 17, a tow truck came to Rosedale to repossess a vehicle owned by officer Hall. The vehicle was located in the parking lot behind the courthouse and while the driver of the tow truck was hooking up the vehicle someone made a phone call to officer Hall.”

A call to the Rosedale Police Department on Saturday morning confirmed that two city police officers have been relieved of their duty effective immediately.

An event that occurred on February 17, 2012, led to officers Nakia Hall and Arthur Griham’s release.

“On or around Feb. 17, a tow truck came to Rosedale to repossess a vehicle owned by officer Hall,” said Rosedale Mayor Carey Estes shortly after the incident. “The vehicle was located in the parking lot behind the courthouse and while the driver of the tow truck was hooking up the vehicle someone made a phone call to officer Hall.”

Officers Hall, Griham, and another officer, Michael Honorable were on duty at the time of the incident when Hall and Griham were on patrol and noticed the truck hauling Hall’s vehicle pass in front of them.

A chase ensued and continued for nearly 10 miles outside of the Rosedale city limits. In the midst of the chase, the Repossessor called the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department requesting assistance and giving his location as just west of the town of Pace.

Two deputies from neighboring Bolivar arrived on the scene. “At that point the driver of the truck, from Mid-Delta Recovery, pulled to the side of the road and officers Hall and Griham pulled up behind him,” said Estes. “That is the point where stories became conflicted.

Interim Police Chief Elijah Johnson said that it is against department policy for officers to make stops outside of the city limits.

“Our responsibility is to serve and protect the people of Rosedale,” said Johnson. “The officers know that they are not supposed to make stops outside the city limits.”
