SC Repo Man Shot At

North Charleston, SC – June 14, 2012 – Hotel guests at the Masters Inn in North Charleston were awakened to the sound of late night gun fire as a Repo Man came under fire according to the North Charleston Police Department.

The unnamed 30 year old Repo Man reported to police that he located the vehicle he was attempting to repossess and had just hooked it up when he heard someone at the inn shout, “Hey man, they’re taking your car.” Then, he reportedly saw someone running out of an upstairs room, yelling “Hey!”

As he began driving away with the car attached to his tow truck, a man reportedly chased after him. Just as the tow truck pulled onto Rivers Avenue, he reported to police that he heard four gunshots.

Upon arriving at the scene, North Charleston Police received personal information on the registered owner of the repossessed vehicle. The suspect, 24-year-old Shabazz Rainey, was a registered guest at the inn.

Police interviewed Rainey who admitted to having a firearm and claimed to have firing shots into the air. Rainey claimed he afterward became frightened and threw the gun into an exterior trash can. The gun was reportedly not recovered by police..

During the interview with Rainey, police report that they found a small bag of cocaine, which witnesses said belonged to Rainey. One gram of cocaine had been reportedly discarded into the toilet. Officers were concerned that Rainey might have consumed some of the cocaine, so they took him to a nearby hospital for examination.

Rainey was charged with attempted murder and possession of cocaine and was booked into the Charleston County Detention Center.
