Live NorthLegal Webinar

Bankruptcy law affects every consumer financial institution. Unfortunately, it is a complex and ever-changing subject — and one about which attorneys and even courts often disagree!

Just “figuring it out as you go” can lead to lost opportunities to recover unpaid debt, wasted time, and unnecessary attorneys fees. It can also cause serious mistakes that result in expensive litigation and court sanctions. It is important that collectors (and those who supervise and audit collectors) know the rules. Having at least a basic understanding of bankruptcy can also help lenders make better loans!

An Introduction to Bankruptcy

BK 101 is an introductory-level NorthLegal webinar that provides new collectors with a foundation upon which to build their bankruptcy knowledge; experienced collectors with a chance to be sure their information is current and on-track;, and lenders, compliance officers, and credit committee members with “big picture” information that will help them manage bankruptcy procedures and improve lending.

Participants will learn:

• A description of the various types (“chapters”) of bankruptcy, how they compare to each other, and how each affects your financial institution.

• Things collectors should look for when attempting to maximize recovery of a debt included in a Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy.

• Why rules are not always the same in different parts of the country (even though we all follow the same Bankruptcy Code) and what your institution can do about it.

• The language of bankruptcy, and how to understand the words used by courts, attorneys and other bankruptcy professionals so you understand what is happening with a case.

• An introduction to the “automatic stay” — when it begins and ends and how it affects your institution.

Scheduling problem?

Registration now for $175 entitles your financial institution to have one connection to the live event plus unlimited connections to a recording of the event for six months! If you miss the live event, you still have plenty of time to study the recording.

After the live event has begun, you can still register for the recording alone, but the cost increases to $190.00
