Elk Grove, CA – September 20, 2013 – A police standoff occurred in an Elk Grove neighborhood following a man’s overreaction to his car being repossessed Friday morning.
At about 3 a.m. Elk Grove police were called to a residence where a Repo Man with a tow truck was attempting to repossess a 2013 Nissan Altima when the owner of the car exited the residence and discharged a handgun into the air. The Repo Man then drove away.
Trim said that when officers arrived, the car that was to be repossessed was not at the home, leading police to believe it was driven away and hidden.
Police established phone contact with the man who fired the gun, who was back inside the home with a teen girl and a woman were also live there. They were not being held hostage.
At approximately 6 a.m., the man came out of the home and was detained by police. Officers conducted an initial sweep of the home, and they plan to use a search warrant for a more comprehensive look inside.
The unnamed man who fired the gun could be arrested on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm.
