Repo Man Shoots Family Dog – Accusations Ensue

Detroit, MI – 17 July 2017 – A repo man said when he pulled up to repossess a vehicle in Detroit, he had no choice to but to shoot a family’s dog that he says was ready to attack. But the owner of the dog says that’s not true – from the back of a police car.

It happened Monday morning on Lyndon on Detroit’s west side. Carol Bradley-Taylor says she was happily sitting at home when she got a call that there were gunshots at her son’s house.

“I was at home enjoying a John Wayne western on television – ‘Rio Grande’, my favorite – when I got the phone call,” Carol said.

The wild west was playing out in her front yard: her son’s dog had been shot and the man who did the shooting pulled out of the area in a hurry.

Corey Pratt lives nearby and said that the gunshots first thing in the morning was, to say the least, jolting.

“It was bad. Bright and early, gunshots. To wake up to that? Horrible,” he said.

Kevin Jones owns Gucci, the dog who was shot. He also drives a white Cadillac Escalade that the repo man had shown up to repossess. According to that repo man, Jones unleashed his dog on him.

“Big ass dog – 90 pound Staffordshire pitbull – tore after me,” he said.

He did not give us his name and he also wore a bandana over his face during the interview as he sat in his truck.

Jones said that the repo man is to blame.

“I came outside and opened my door and he started firing on me and my dog, on private property. This man started discharging shots at me and my dog,” he said from the back of a Detroit Police car.

After shooting the dog, he said the driver took off – in a hurry. He left behind tire marks on the lawn and in the street and the ramp was still down on the truck when he drove off.

“He bolted. He got in that truck, backed out and took off full speed. Full speed,” Jones said.

When he took off, Jones got into that Escalade and gave chase. Police caught up with him a short distance away.

With Jones in custody, the repo man returned for the Cadillac with a police escort. He told FOX 2’s Amy Lange that he unleashed the dog on him and gave an attack command.

“I was attacked by a dog. He sent his dog out on me,” he said. “He opened the door and said, ‘get him’.”

With both men giving different stories, Jones was taken in for questioning.

“I was upset because you could have shot someone in my house and if you were in the right, why would you run? Why were you running? I had no weapon,” Jones said.

The repo man said that the dog was the weapon and he was just protecting himself. Police said he is a licensed CPL holder.

Police are still investigating.
