Man Gets Slap on the Wrist from Court for Endangering Repossessor

Reading, PA 27 June 2018 – Mohnton man was sentenced Tuesday in Berks County Court to three years of probation for driving his SUV off the hook of a tow truck as the vehicle was being repossessed in April.

Andre L. Allen, 34, of the first block of East Wyomissing Avenue pleaded guilty before Judge Paul M. Yatron to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.

The incident occurred in a lot in the first block of Main Street that was behind Allen’s apartment about 1:40 p.m. April 8.

According to authorities:

A registered repossessor hired by a recovery company went to repossess the small SUV. The rear wheels of the vehicle were loaded onto the lifting rack of the truck. The repossessor and his assistant were trying to secure it with straps when Allen dashed to the area from his second-floor apartment.

Allen jumped into the driver’s seat of the SUV, started the engine and operated the vehicle in a reckless manner to try to remove it from the truck.

With the two workers nearby, the tires of the SUV, which were elevated about two feet, began spinning at a high rate and were sliding back and forth as Allen rocked the vehicle.

Allen eventually freed one of the rear wheels from the truck while continuing to spin the wheels and rock the SUV. The other rear tire then slid off the lifting rack, allowing him to drive away.
