AB 2501’s Final Attempt at Passing the Assembly is This Morning

Assembly Meeting is 9am PST

17 June 2020 – A 28-25 loss on Monday. A failed surprise re-vote on Tuesday morning. This morning, AB 2510’s author, Assembly Woman Monique Limon is expected to reintroduce her credit and job killing poison bill, AB 2501, one last time (we hope this is it.) There has been a lot going on behind the scenes, but this morning is listed as item 6 and is expected to be the bill’s “Hail Mary” with no time left on the clock. Let’s hope she doesn’t drag it on all day trying to get votes.

It came this close!

According to sources, Limon almost passed the bill on Monday when she had 39 of the 41 needed votes and only needed to turn two chairs, when, allegedly, claims of revisions to key aspects of the bill regarding self-help repossessions that she made to her fellow assembly members, turned out to not be true when shown to them. As the result, many of her supporters reversed their votes to No Vote Recorded.

The final vote on Monday

At stake, well, everything for many in the repossession and collections industries. Massive probabilities of layoffs in the credit union and community bank spaces as well as an overall tightening of the credit market, just when the public will need it.

While the box isn’t in the hole yet, the grave is dug and the tombstone is being prepared. This is all the result of outstanding grass roots efforts from all involved.

It’s too early to declare a victory, so let’s keep our fingers crossed!
