NCLC Publishes State by State List of Anti-Collection and Repo Efforts

Also Publishes State by State Moratoriums

Long established consumer protection advocates, The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC), most known for their white paper published in 2010, titled “Repo Madness” which pressed for a cessation of all self-help repossessions activity, has been busy very during the COVID-19 crisis in their engagement  with state level efforts to prohibit virtually all collections activity for the foreseeable future.

The NCLC has been maintaining for public view, lists of their attempts to shut down collections activities, which, aside from efforts to cease the seizure of stimulus checks, includes moratoriums on collection communications efforts, the filing of new consumer debt collection lawsuits, suspension of deadlines and defaults judgments, suspension of the enforcement of civil judgments by levy, lien, or garnishment, and moratoriums on repossession and foreclosure.

In addition to sharing the list of their efforts, they have also published a state by state listing of all prohibitions on collections, repossession and foreclosures in place at a state by state level.
